The School of Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism at
Lakehead University invites applications for three academic
positions to commence August 1, 2000, subject to budgetary
approval. The School offers a dynamic, interdisciplinary
undergraduate program which combines theoretical perspectives
and practical experiences relevant to the pursuit and provision of
recreation in the natural environment. The program consists of a
core of courses and specialties in three streams: parks, tourism
and outdoor leadership.
Located on the northwestern shore of Lake Superior, Lakehead
University is home to the School of Outdoor Recreation Parks, and
Tourism. Steeped in the cultural and natural history of the Canadian
Precambrian Shield, Lakehead University and the City of Thunder Bay,
Ontario offer unique personal and professional opportunities. The
surrounding landscape of Northwestern Ontario provides a backdrop for
the practical application of a rigorous academic program, which includes
a wide variety of courses in Nature Based Tourism, Parks, and Outdoor
Leadership
Nature-Based Tourism (Tenure-Track)
This position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate level. The
tourism component of the program includes policy, planning, analysis,
marketing and management. Applicants for this position will have a
strong record in research and teaching in the area of natural resource-
based tourism and will be able to contribute additional specialties.
A completed Ph.D. (or near completion) is required.
Outdoor Leadership or Parks (Tenure-Track)
The Outdoor Leadership component of the program includes experiential
education, and outdoor environmental leadership theory and practice. The
Parks component of the program includes protected areas, planning,
management, policy and interpretation. Applicants for this position
will have a strong record in research and teaching in several of the
identified sub-fields and will be able to contribute additional specialties.
A completed Ph.D. (or near completion) is required.
Tourism, Outdoor Leadership or Parks (Limited Term Position)
This position will commence August 1, 2000 and end May 15, 2001.
Applications are sought from qualified candidates in the area of Tourism,
Outdoor Leadership or Parks. Preferred candidates will have a Ph.D.,
although those with a Masters degree and teaching experience are
encouraged to apply.
The successful candidates will bring enthusiasm for teaching, collaborative
research abilities and a desire to strengthen an already innovative and
dynamic honours degree-granting programme with over 400 full-time
