Jodi Axelson

Jodi has returned to British Columbia after enjoying several years of Saskatchewan winters. In her PhD program she expects to be looking at the long-term dendroecological impacts of insect defoliators on the forests of Interior British Columbia. Jodi has quickly learned the ways of the UVTRL and has dreams of finding evidence of insect defoliation in our dendroglaciological samples. Jodi at the UVTRL

Jill Harvey

Jill has forsaken the company of penguins and polar bears to hang out with backcountry UVTRLers. Having been a member of the infamous “NightRider Gang” in the 2009 field season, Jill is anxious to visit glacier fronts in the Bella Coola area. Jill’s MSc research will focus on the telling of dendroglaciological tales from samples collected in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park. Jill at the UVTRL

Kate Johnson

Kate is a seasoned UVTRL member. She comes to us from 'southern' England where the glaciers are few and far between - but the winter weather is far worse than she has experienced in Victoria. Having spent the 2008 and 2009 field seasons collecting dendroglaciological samples at White Glacier in the Cambria Icefield area, Kate has far too many “Stewart” stories to tell. Kate is a charter member of the “NightRider Gang” and is increasingly anxious about dying harddrives. Kate at the UVTRL

Dave Lewis

Dave joined the UVTRL a long, long, long time ago and, after a brief hiatus in the frigid air of Edmonton, came back to Victoria, before moving away again to Prince George, and then to Lethbridge. For his PhD we suspect that Dave is working to perfect an espresso brew derived from the hundreds of dendroglaciological samples he has collected from remote sites in the northwest BC Coast Mountains. Dave enjoys slow rides in small helicopters and always seems to be smiling when he vists the mountains. Dave at the UVTRL

Kyla Patterson

Kyla is back from her South American adventure and is learning the Lidar ropes for her MSc. A prodigy of Geography 477 tree-ring adventures, Kyla rescued our history from a host of aging computers and shepherded the UVTRL through our emerging X-ray adventures. Much to her surprise, Kyla is discovering that Lidar ground truthing requires that trees be cored and chronologies constructed. Kyla is a member of the “NightRider” gang, and has way too many Stewart adventures to tell. Kyla at the UVTRL

Kara Pitman

Kara plans to search out old trees hidden by lakes and glaciers in the Bella Coola area for her MSc research. She learned the ways of the UVTRL by following the lead of the “NightRider Gang” and managed to pocket a few Stewart adventures of her own. Kara wants to boldly go where no UVTRLer has gone before, and we expect to see her emerging from muddy lakes with a smile on her face. Kara at the UVTRL

Krista Roessingh

Krista has returned for an encore UVTRL performance. She is currently contemplating a research program that will focus on the biogeography of BC's coastal sandhill cranes. She expects to fill in scientific knowledge gaps in the life history of this population, all the while spending her summers floating around coastal inlets. Krista at the UVTRL

Colette Starheim

Colette moved to the coast from Interior British Columbia in search of our reputed Mediterranean climate. We may have neglected to tell her that Victoria is part of the ‘wet’ coast. Colette is learning the ways of the UVTRL and will be headed to the Bella Coola area for her MSc research focused on dendrohydological reconstructions. Colette thanks her lucky stars that she has no Stewart stories to tell - so far. Colette at the UVTRL

Lisa Wood

Lisa lives in Prince George now. During her time in Victoria she learned to think like a geographer, and probably spent too much time adventuring with the other “ladies” in the lab. After collecting lots of tree-ring chronologies, Lisa unleashed the UVTRL x-ray machine on her unsuspecting lab mates. We are looking forward to hearing the outcome of these activities in her PhD dissertation. Due soon - but then so is Lisa. Lisa at the UVTRL

Dan (The Boss) Smith

Dan has been with the UVTRL ever since he created it. Known for his knowledge of shortcuts, his staff suggest that if you are feeling lucky, to follow him at least once in your life. As Dan breaks easily, it is always best to bring along some T3s. Dan at the UVTRL
